Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how PickyPlaces ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

By using the App you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account information

When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive:

• Your email address
• Your display name
• A unique user identifier

If you use Guest Mode, we create an anonymous account that stores only a randomly generated identifier — no email or name.

1.2 Location

We access your device's precise location only while the App is open, and only to find restaurants near you. Your location is sent to Google's Places API to return nearby results. We do not store your location on our servers.

1.3 User-generated content

We store restaurant ratings, visit history, and party (group) data you create. If you use Party Mode, members of your party can see the ratings and visits you contribute to that party.

1.4 Technical data

We collect basic crash logs and service diagnostics through Firebase so we can keep the App running reliably.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

• Authenticate you and maintain your account
• Show you nearby restaurants based on your location
• Save your ratings and let you sync them across your devices
• Power Party Mode so your group can share visits
• Diagnose and fix technical problems

We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use it for cross-app tracking.

3. Third-Party Services

We rely on a small number of third-party services to run the App. Each has its own privacy policy, which governs their use of your data:

• Firebase (Google) — authentication, database, and hosting
• Google Places API — nearby-restaurant search and photos
• Google Sign-In — optional sign-in method
• Apple Sign-In — optional sign-in method

4. Data Retention and Deletion

Your account data is retained until you delete your account from within the App. When you tap Delete Account in the Profile tab we:

• Delete your user record and all ratings you have saved in our database
• Remove you from every party you belong to
• Delete your Firebase Auth credential

Deletion is permanent and cannot be reversed.

5. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us so we can delete the account.

6. Security

We use standard industry practices (TLS in transit, Firebase-managed encryption at rest, strict per-user access rules) to protect your data. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to minimize risk.

7. Your Rights

Depending on where you live you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal data. You can delete your account at any time from within the App. For other requests contact us at the email below.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we materially change this policy we will notify you in the App and update the "Last updated" date above.
